Statement Regarding Alleged Aerial Attack on Civilians in Sharshar Area, West Bara Locality, North Kordofan State
The Shahid Evidence Platform for Digital Evidence and Human Rights Documentation expresses its profound concern regarding preliminary information received from local sources and eyewitnesses concerning an alleged aerial attack targeting the Sharshar area in West Bara Locality, North Kordofan State, during the afternoon of today.
According to multiple consistent eyewitness accounts received by the Platform, witnesses reported that an Antonov aircraft allegedly departed from Wadi Sayyidna Air Base at approximately 13:30 and was observed flying over North Kordofan at around 14:20, heading toward West Bara Locality, shortly before aerial strikes were reportedly carried out in the Sharshar area.
The Platform has also received numerous videos and photographs from multiple independent sources depicting distressing scenes of civilian casualties, reportedly including women and children. As of the time of issuing this statement, however, the Platform has not yet been able to independently verify the final number or identities of the victims, and verification and information-gathering efforts remain ongoing.
The Shahid Evidence Platform emphasizes that all digital materials received will undergo comprehensive forensic verification and technical analysis in accordance with internationally recognized standards for digital evidence documentation. This process includes source authentication, metadata analysis, temporal and geospatial verification, and preservation of the Chain of Custody, with the objective of ensuring the integrity and admissibility of the evidence in any future legal proceedings or international investigative mechanisms.
The Platform reiterates its call for the establishment of an independent, impartial, and international fact-finding mechanism with full authority to access the affected area, collect and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and determine responsibility for any violations that may have been committed against civilians, in accordance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.
Furthermore, the Platform calls upon all parties to the conflict to fully respect the fundamental principle of distinction between civilians and combatants and to take all feasible precautions to protect civilians and civilian objects from the effects of military operations, as required under international law.
The Shahid Evidence Platform also urges residents of the affected area, humanitarian workers, survivors, and witnesses to preserve any physical or digital evidence related to the incident, refrain from disturbing the strike site where it is safe to do so, document the incident through available means, and contact the Platform whenever technical assistance is required for the preservation and documentation of evidence in accordance with international standards.
The Platform will continue to monitor this incident closely, conduct the necessary technical and legal verification procedures, and publish any verified findings once its professional verification methodology has been completed.
The Shahid Evidence Platform reaffirms its commitment to the impartial documentation of alleged violations, the preservation of digital evidence, and the promotion of accountability through credible, independent, and internationally recognized investigative processes.
