Shahid Evidence · SMIMA — Sudan Media Intelligence & Monitoring Daily Media Monitoring Brief — Sudan Thursday 8 October 2026 ·

Executive Summary
• Ed Damazin: drone strikes at dawn on Wednesday 7 October killed four women in El Hijra district and hit the home of the region's finance minister and the technical college. Reuters and Dabanga confirm the casualties; local officials and a civil-society initiative blame the RSF and allies — attribution unverified. IOM: more than 5,500 displaced in the region over three days.
• Umm Badr: sources told Sudan Tribune the RSF leadership opened an investigation into the "liquidation" of 23 of its own members accused of looting Umm Badr market on 24 September, and summoned a field commander to Nyala — contradicting the Sudan Doctors Network's account of "more than 25 civilians" executed. Victim identity is now disputed.
• El-Mazroub: the Kordofan Observatory accuses an RSF-affiliated force of killing four civilians, including a child, in Tayba Oulad Balouh west of El-Mazroub on Tuesday night (6 Oct) in an apparent robbery — adding to earlier reports of violations attributed to army and Joint Force troops in the town. Neither account is independently verified.
• Burhan: his "no negotiations" speech is confirmed as Tuesday 6 October in Village 5, New Amri (Merowe locality), pledging to "retake every inch"; reports list the Port Sudan authority's truce conditions: RSF withdrawal from cities, disarmament, cantonment and accountability.
• UN Security Council: the vote on renewing 1591 sanctions is provisionally expected today; the mandate expires tomorrow, 9 October.
• Nuba Mountains: a senior RSF delegation is in Kauda mediating a deadly conflict between the SPLM-N and the Atoro; local leaders cite 500+ killed and 25,000 displaced — unverified figures.
• Press freedom: the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate and the Al Jazeera Human Rights Observatory condemn posts inciting the killing of journalist Rasha Awad.
• Livelihoods: the Teachers' Committee says salaries cover 3% of basic needs and demands a 500,000 SDG minimum wage; the Central Bank is withdrawing old SDG500 notes by 31 December.
