Shahid Evidence Platform for Digital Evidence and Human Rights Documentation has strongly condemned the airstrikes reportedly carried out on the morning of Saturday, October 10, 2026, against the Al-Oqaydat gold mine, also known as Jebel Al-Oqaydat, near the Al-Ansari mining market in northern Sudan. Preliminary reports indicate dozens of casualties, while serious allegations have emerged implicating the Egyptian Air Force in the attack.

In an official statement, Shahid Evidence Platform reported that preliminary information received by its monitoring and documentation teams, together with video footage showing the aftermath of the bombardment and scenes of casualties, suggests that more than 60 people were killed or injured.

The platform emphasized that these figures remain preliminary and that the exact number and identities of the victims have not yet been independently verified.

According to testimonies received from the area, more than five airstrikes reportedly targeted locations where civilian gold miners were working. The platform stressed that allegations concerning the involvement of Egyptian military aircraft require an urgent, independent international investigation to establish the identity of the aircraft involved, determine responsibility for the attacks, and identify those within the military chain of command who may have authorized the operation.

Shahid Evidence Platform further noted that the incident follows earlier reports of similar aerial attacks targeting gold-mining sites in northern Sudan, including incidents reported in June 2026. Allegations of Egyptian military involvement were also raised in connection with those incidents, although responsibility has not been conclusively established through an independent investigation.

The platform criticized what it described as the absence of a clear public response from the Port Sudan authorities regarding these reported attacks. It called on the authorities to disclose all available information concerning the incidents and clarify the measures taken to protect Sudanese civilians working in mining areas.

Shahid Evidence Platform urged the United Nations Human Rights Council and relevant international investigative mechanisms to launch a comprehensive investigation into the October 10 attack on Al-Oqaydat mine, as well as previous incidents involving reported airstrikes against civilian miners.

The platform called for the identification of those responsible at both operational and command levels and for accountability wherever violations of international humanitarian law are established.

It also urged the Egyptian authorities to provide an official explanation regarding the allegations directed at their air force and to cooperate fully with any independent international investigation.

Furthermore, the platform stressed the urgent need to ensure unrestricted humanitarian and medical access to the affected area, facilitate emergency assistance to the injured, establish the identities of victims, and preserve all relevant physical and digital evidence.

Shahid Evidence Platform reiterated that the protection of civilians and their livelihoods is a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law. It emphasized that intentionally directing attacks against civilians constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and may amount to a war crime.

The platform concluded by reaffirming its commitment to collecting, preserving, and verifying digital evidence and eyewitness testimonies related to the incident, with the aim of submitting verified findings to competent international investigative and accountability mechanisms.

**“Civilian lives must never be treated as military targets, and the blood of Sudanese civilians must not be shed without investigation, justice, and accountability.”**
