Daily Media Monitoring Brief — Sudan Tuesday 6 October 2026

Executive Summary
• The Human Rights Council renewed the mandate of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan for another year (5 Oct) by 28 votes to 10 with 9 abstentions. The resolution condemns violations by both sides and demands an immediate, complete ceasefire without preconditions. Sudan's delegation (Port Sudan authority) urged rejection, saying the Council "failed to take its reservations into account".
• US presidential adviser Massad Boulos met Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Port Sudan authority's Sovereignty Council and army chief, in New Alamein on Sunday 4 October at a lunch hosted by President Sisi. Boulos pledged continued efforts "to advance a political solution and end the war"; the Port Sudan authority issued no statement. Radio Tamazuj reports Washington is pressing both sides to accept a 90-day humanitarian truce.
• Blue Nile: IOM recorded about 2,800 people (560 families) displaced in a single day from 10 villages towards Roseires, while battlefield control claims between the army and the RSF–SPLM-N alliance remain disputed.
• West Darfur: the army-allied Joint Force claims control of Bir Sulaiba (about 30 km north of El Geneina) — a party claim with no RSF response. In El Geneina, the civil administration linked to the Ta'sis alliance accuses the army of a drone strike that killed more than 10 civilians in a vehicle — attribution unverified.
• UN relief chief Tom Fletcher condemned the attack on two WFP trucks in South Kordofan and called for a "prompt, impartial" investigation; the perpetrator remains unknown.
• Security Council: 1591 sanctions measures expire on 9 October, with members divided over extending the arms embargo to all of Sudan and covering drones (Security Council Report).
• Darfur: continued arrivals in Tawila (1,394 people between 28 Sep and 3 Oct) driven by drought, crop failure and insecurity; a founding Sudan Liberation Movement commander was killed by unidentified gunmen in South Darfur.
